My husband's family was from TX, her branch of the family stayed in TX and ended up getting things handed down in her line.
Rootsweb -- http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ -- Scroll down to Message Boards, then you can click on Surnames, Localities etc. After you click on Surnames go to Find a Board and just type in surname. Same thing with localities -- Find a Board. Saves going through a bunch of steps.
Also they have WorldConnect, I use the Advance Search and have it book marked -- http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgihttp://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi -- Just be careful. You may find 10 people with same exact information, people think it must be correct if so many have the same thing. Many people on that site copy from others, warts and all, and have no clue if there is a "source" or "proof." --- groanBut, sometimes it can give you something to work on to prove, or disprove.LOL
