Hi Annette--
Not sure you are familiar with the site, but Family Search has images of the Texas death certificates to 1979. I didn't find James, but did find Louella. The informant on the death certificate is her sister, Thelma Pink Lee.
Here's the record:
http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html?..#searchId=62276328263119750000;p=recordResults;searchType=standard;collectionId=1320964;givenName=Louella;surname=McConnachie

Not much of a lead, but you may be able to find some info on her family.

Also, you may want to check with the cemetery (Austin Memorial Park) and see if James might be buried there also. They might even have an obit for you. That might list some info.

Just some thoughts. Hope it helps!
Happy Hunting!
Andrea
