William and Bert White, sons of Jasper "Jack" White; mid 1800s?
Hello,
I am looking for the descendents of William or Bert "Berdie" White from Texas and Montana. Their dad Jasper "Jack" White, the only brother out of five to survive the Civil War, migrated from Spartanburg, S.C. to west Texas with family and friends after the war. He had two sons, William and Bert.
According to a letter from around the turn of the century from Edward Walker White in Amarillo (Whie & Kirk store) to his brother Rev. Wm. Henry White in Alabama (my gr granddad), "Uncle Jack" wound up in the Texas Mental Institution. His son William hung around but "Berdie" had gone to Montana. Not only would I like to meet any distant cousins descended from them, I am trying to find out "Uncle Jack's" history, especially his Civil War history if any. I am not sure he served or not, being only around 16 in 1863, but I know he was with his brothers in the Palmetto SharpShooters or at least near enough to be around when they died. Because he buried the last one to die, John, my gr gr grandfather, in 1864 on the way home to Spartanburg, S.C.. John had been wounded at Petersburg. Seeing your brothers all killed, three in 1862 and the last one in '64, would be enough to crack anyone!
Any info on either Uncle JAck White or his sons William and Bert would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
David Edelen
