Handleys of Louisiana and Polk Co., Texas

Mary Ann Parker b. 1850 La. was a daughter of Isaiah and Dicy Calcote Parker of Bienville Parish then Rapides Parish, Louisiana. Ca. 1868, Mary Ann married James A. Handley b. 1845 Mississippi. They lived for many decades in the Rapides/Natchitoches area and had about a dozen children.

Mary Ann Parker's family history is well documented, but it appears that little is known about James A. Handley's family history. He was a son of Sophiah McNutt Handley, b. 1815 La. and an unknown husband Handley who died or left ca. 1848. 1850 Bienville census lists Sophiah as HOH raising seven children, and James A. was five.

Can anyone share details about the father of James A. Handley, their connections in Mississippi, and how they might be related to the many other Handleys in Louisiana and East Texas? Much appreciated. Patricia Ross Parker
