OMG....thank you, thank you, thank you. This is the first listing I've found with a maiden name for Nancy's mother! You are an angel!

While all later censuses have everyone listed as white, we know that Nancy was at least half native, and according to family lore, was Cherokee. I've been trying to trace the native part of the family, and just kept hitting brick walls, because back then it was so important to pass as white if possible (although there's no way my family could realistically pass *laughs*, but they did try). My understanding has always been that it was Nancy's mother who was Cherokee, so I've been trying to trace her with no information other than her first name and birth date. This will really help me to move further.

Also, thanks for the link. It's one database I hadn't come across yet!
