Hi Ruth!
The Harris County Clerk has a database of marriages. There's a partial listing of the later 40's (after 1948) and complete listing after the late 50's. Unfortunately, your date (1946) isn't in there.

The Harris County Clerk should, however, do a search for you since you know the exact year. You might give them a call. And there are always volunteers who might look them up for you (call the Clayton Library in Houston or check for volunteers at the USGenWeb site for Harrris Co, www.usgenweb.com

A few more bits. I found the death certificate for the O. Adams on Charles Arthur's death certificate. Sure 'nuff, it's his brother, Osborne Artis Adams, b. 1890 of the same parents (Charles Sanford Adams and Mary Elizabeth Ward). He died in 1970 in Caldwell Co., TX. Some more checking: found the WWI draft registration for Osborne. He's in Harris Co. and says he's the sole support of his mother, father and daughter (maybe Fay is his daughter). He says he was born in Gatesville TX, which is Coryell Co. Found the whole family in 1900 in Waco, McLennan Co (which isn't far from Gatesville). Here's the basic listing:
Charlie S Adams 47
Mary E Adams 48
Effie D Adams 20
Clifford O Adams 18
George B Adams 16
Charlie A Adams 15
Mamie E Adams 12
Osborne A Adams 8

They are farmers and farm laborers. Mary is mother of 8/8 living.

I can find Osborne in 1910. He's in Hardin Co., which is near Beaumont/Pt. Arthur. And he's now working in the oil field. His mother may be there also--if it's her she's listed with a daughter and son-in-law who just had a baby. But I can't find Charles Sanford or Charles Arthur.

From the death certificates, Charles Sanford dies in 1917 in Jefferson Co. TX (Beaumont) and Mary Elizabeth dies in 1945 in Harris Co. (O.A. is again the informant).

So, that leaves us with where is Charles Arthur in 1910? I can't find him in 1910 (in Illinois, Texas, or points in between). Maybe someone else will have better luck.

So..good luck and happy hunting!
Andrea
