Galveston Daily News Galveston, Texas December 19, 1880 Jacksboro, Dec. 18: A fatal affray occurred at a late hour last night at Lick Branch, 15 miles northeast of Jacksboro. An altercation arose while attending a country dance between a man styled DOCK PILLS and his brother-in-law named MCGEE (really MCGEHEE), and was brought to a close by MCGEE/MCGEHEE who suddenly grasped a knife and stabbed Pills in the throat, inflicting a wound from which Pills soon afterward expired. McGee/McGehee left the house after committing the murder, followed a brother of murdered man, named PETE PILLS. This morning McGee/McGehee was found dead about 100 yards from his house, his skull broken by a blow from a single-tree, which was lying beside him. It is alleged when Pete Pills left the house, in which the dance was held, he carried with him the swingle-tree, which was found by the body of McGee/McGehee. Tidings of the affair reached Jacksboro at 3:00 this morning, Sheriff KING, with his shooting irons, was quickly in the saddle, facing a freezing norther, en route to the scene of the murder, where he arrested Pete Pills, who is now in jail here, charged with the murder of McGee/McGehee. The parties concerned were prosperous farmers and leave families. Galveston Daily News Galveston, Texas April 16, 1881 Sherman, April 15: A man named P. M. MORRIS, arrested at the mouth of Mud Creek in Indian Territory, eight miles north of this place, was brought in by the Sheriff and posse this morning. Morris is charged with attempting to murder Constable CRABTREE last spring. He has been at large, living in Indian Territory ever since. He was arrested in this county by Crabtree for forgery in Dallas County, and breaking jail in that county in company with a man named NORTHCUTT, he went to the home of Crabtree for revenge. He is confined in the county jail to await the action of the grand jury. Waco, April 15: About two years since WARREN HILL and HIGH STULL, two prominent citizens of the VAUGHAN neighborhood, Bosque County, became involved in a difficulty, when Hill shot at Stull. For this he was to be tried last week, but by chance they met day before yesterday, when they commenced firing each other, three balls taking effect in Stull, killing him instantly. Hill, who was uninjured, was arrested and jailed at Meridian. Notify Administrator about this message?
