I was working along the same lines as Thomas and then I saw he had already posted the info. One thing he didn't include was that James had land in 1860, and it looks like his widow is there in 1870, the value of land is less, but she still has land.I would check land and probate records.Who shows up as heirs?Do children of Mary/May/Margarett show up receiving a share of their father's part of the estate?Let's hope so, as that would certainly cement the family together.More then likely it would name that deceased son, and possible father of those children.
Also, you might contact some of the submitter's on Rootsweb WorldConnect who are working on James Bankston. It never hurts to share what you know, one of them may come across something that will help you.

Type in Bankston, James, born 1800 + or - 5 years, b Georgia, d Texas.I find it interesting a couple of the submitters show his wife with various spellings for her given name.I wondered how she came up as "Vicy" on the 1870 census, but some of those other spellings might explain the nickname of Vicy.
Also, you might go to the "Search this Forum" box on the Bankston forum.Play around with a few subjects, such as AR, GA and try some of the given names in the family. Plus maiden name of James -- McDonald.Several matches come up with that name. Some of the posts are old, but you can check message history of the submitters, see if they are still posting. They may have learned more since they posted the old queries.
Happy Hunting (^_^)
