My Scottish blood likes the free sites. GenForum and GenWeb are among my favorites. Now, GenWeb sites are handled by volunteers so they do vary in quantity and quality of their information. Most are growing, or even have a change in webmasters, so it pays to revisit from time to time. Now, if you have a Family History Center near you, they have a subscription to Ancestry.com and you can use their computers. Their volunteers will show you how to use the system, and again, free. I understand there are FHCs in other countries besides the U.S. Go to http://www.familysearch.org/ Type in Australia in the box to find local FHC. Long list comes up, hope one is near you. You can do some searches on Ancestry at home. When you get to the part reserved for members, you start a list and won't waste any time when you get the FHC. For census search at home I use Heritage Quest through local public library where I have a library card. Check and see if you have a public library near you that has HQ. Only libraries can subscribe to HQ. I don't know if they have it in other countries besides U.S., but worth a try. Have you used Rootsweb WorldConnect? Just remember it is FULL of errors. But, it will give you some information and then it is up to you to follow through and see if it is accurate. Just because a dozen people on there have the same info does not mean it is correct. Many of those people just copy from each other. I know this for a fact, as an error made by a distant cousin is now on several posts. So we can see exactly where they got their information. LOL Rootsweb WorldConnect -- http://www.familysearch.org/ Hope this helps you some. Happy Hunting (^_^) Notify Administrator about this message?
