I looked at the 1880 census on line just to check the name again. I read it the same way the transcriber did as far as the name is concerned, but there is one more thing that is worth mentioning. In the relationship block it is marked "sister". Now this should be the relationship to head of household, but he is an old man. I feel they were trying to indicate that she was a sister to Elizabeth Carter who was listed just above.

When I traced Elizabeth back 10 years and her mother was a widow named Margaret Carter, I believed I was on the right track, but seeing them with the Isaacs family just cinched it for me. I know that isn't Grandfather Isaacs, but there are Isaacs all over that area and some are even spelled Issacks which I had never seen before. I think that is your Matilda and she was just enumerated wrong.
