I am a descendant of Benjamin Washington Beard/Baird/Beaird and Ellen/Elinder/Ellender McCowen. Their daughter Henrietta married Samuel William Alexander. They are my GGGgrandparents. I am certain they are the same Beard family as yours. Members of the family moved to Texas and Oklahoma. Go to www.balcro.com and look for the Beaird Genealogy. Nancy, Ellender and Benjamin are all mentioned.
There are some records for Benjamin on the web. You'll need to search on all combinations of the name to find it. Unfortunately I have not found any information about his parents or his place of birth.
