Think this last might be a typo.
This puts John in the same dwelling as William and William, although he's not listed in the US census.
If you do a surname search on the Lamar Co. site mentioned above, you will get quite a few hits. One of note is the index to "Loose Leaves" which is a published genealogy/history book of Lamar Co (my family is from there, so that's why I know). There is an index listing for Thomas. Would be interesting to find out what it refered to. I don't have the book myself, or I would look it up.
I also found some of them in the 1870 census, but I imagine you have already found that.
