On my fathers side, the Hall family was from Cornwall, NY
Guessing only at this point, I believe the parents of my Great Grandfather was Horace and Ann McGovern Hall from Cornwall. My Great Grandfather's first name is unknown, he was killed in a railroad accident in 1893-94, when my grandfather the only son was about 3 years old. My Great grandmother was Amelia Babcock Hall. Amelia later married Jerry Gannon of Orange County, NY. My Grandfather was Clarence Hall. My father was Dewie Evans Hall.
On my mother's side, the Hall family - My Great Grandmother was Matilda Hall Brister, Matilda was born in Florida. Her Father (unknown) was born in South Carolina, Her Mother (unknown) was born in Georgia. Matilda married John Brister from Vernon Parish, Louisiana. John and Matilda had two son's Matthew and John (Buster) Brister. Matilda died between 1892 - 1894. John Brister remarried and had a son (Dave) with his new wife Gerusha Addison Brister (Rusha) (Ruth) by 1895. Now, I have found on census 1870 in Houston County, TX. A Margaret Hall (Widow) with Children using initials only. I believe she may well be Matilda's Mother. The Brister family used initials on serveral of their childrens names. Their second son was called JB Brister, their third son was called AJ Brister. I have also found in Mississippi Land Grants and Census an Andrew Jackson Hall, in Lawrence, Mississippi. This ties in - with
the Samual and Mary Nolen Brister family having lived and owned property in Lawrence County, Miss, as well as in Rapides Parish (Vernon Parish) Also, John Brister was living with his parents and siblings in Lawrence county, Miss from 1860 - 1870, his father Samuel H. Brister fought in the Civil War. In the Vernon Parish Census for 1880, John and Matilda are listed both as Bristers, but she is referred to as (other) rather than (Wife). Also listing their ages as 20 and 22, in reality both John and Matilda would have both been 10 years older. John was 32 and Matilda was 30. We were able to determine her last name on their Son John (Buster) Brister's orbituary from 1955 listing his Mothers name as Thilda Hall.
