In researching my Armstrong family, one of the Armstrongs married a McNeil and I just came across a John McNeil with a son named Bard E. They are listed in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census of Ballard Co., KY. I know from oral history that some relatives lived in TX. I realize this is much later that the Civil War period but you may find a lead in this information. Good Luck.
