Kellam in Rusk County, Texas

My grandfather was William M. Matthews, born in Macon, Madison County, Georgia in 1885. I belive that he was living in Atlanta at the time that he married my grandmother, Floy Brodnax Kellam, of Washington, DC, and Camden, Arkansas. I can trace the Kellams from Arkansas to Rusk County, Texas (before 1850) to Alabama to Georgia in the early 1800s. I can also trace the Brodnaxes from Arkansas back to 1417 in England, where there is a common ancestor with George H. W. Bush.

The Kellam who came to Arkansas was Robert Frank Kellam who was born in Georgia around 1820, moved with his family to Alabama and then to Texas, and then moved to Camden, Arkansas, around 1847. I have located in an Arkansas history journal an account which he wrote of a trip from Camden back to visit his family in Texas in, I believe, 1848 or 1849. It is quite an interesting read.

I know that Robert Frank Kellam had a number of brothers and sisters and I know that there are a number of Kellams (and also possibly some Kellums) in the general vicinity of Rusk today. I would greatly appreciate any information that anyone might have regarding the Kellam family, and I would be very happy to share any information that I have.

Thank you,
Robert (Chip) Matthews
