What my father had was an affidavit of birth. I'm not sure if that is the same thing as a birth certificate, but my guess would be it is not.
The father listed is Jose Delgado, a completely ficticious name. I assume my grandmother didn't want to cause my dad's father any trouble.
The genealogist says it is possible that Isaac Alderete Jr. was my father's dad, but Isaac Alderete Sr. is more likely his father.
My grandmother would have been 15 when they met. Probably at the family business, Ramirez Pharmacy in El Paso. She had my dad when she was 16. Isaac Sr. would have been 49 when my dad was born.
The genealogist has not been able to find a burial place for Isaac Alderete, Sr.
She thinks it must be a prominent grave in a leading cemetery. I think probably in El Paso, if not in the former Ysleta itself.
I showed my youner sister the picture the genealogist gave me tonight and she agrees it is as good a match as we can hope for. I have Isaac's eyes, eyebrows, shape of the face and head. Features I could never place with the family I know about.
Considering how prominent he was I feel certain there are more pictures and biographical data available on him.
She discovered that he attended Jesuit College in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
I don't know if that school still exists, but I will call tomorrow morning and see what I can dig up.
I would think Isaac Alderete, Sr. must have served in the military. Perhaps in the Spanish-American War, or the Filipino Insurrection.
Thanks for all the leads. We are really on a roll!
