With information supplied by Constance, I found the following.

1860 census Clark Co, AR:

Newgant, Flory, __, b ___ - no land/personal 50
" Elizabeth, 23, b AR
" James A., 21, b AR
" Margaret S., 17, b AR
" Jacob, 15, b AR
" Peter S., 13, b AR
" Wm. W., 11, b AR
" Mariah L., 9, b AR
[Both age and location of birth for Flory were marked not known.]

Using GenWeb site census index, only one Nugent listed for 1850 - James, 10, laborer in someone else's household and b AR.

GenWeb census index, one Newgent for 1840:

Newgent, Wm. (A?) - free white males 1, 2, 0, 0, 0, 1
free white females 1, 1, 0, 0, 1 -- owned several slaves

I would check out Clark Co, AR land and probate records for a William Newgent/Nugent/Newgant. See who shows up as his heirs.

Happy Hunting (^_^)
