For any who have missed being contacted regarding the Koen family Reunion for those who trace their way back into Canada to around 1824 in the Kingston Area, we are having a major family reunion with details at www.koenreunion.ca .

For those who have decended from William Koen b. 1800 Co Fermanagh d. Dec. 26 1879 Odessa Canada and Sarah Hurst b. 1801 likely in Co Fermanagh. Their children were baptised in Canada starting with William (1824 d. 1902), Julian Ann (1826 d 1864, James (1828 d. 1913), Francis (1830 d. 1876),Robert (1833 d. 1904), Michael ( 1834 d. ?), William (1836 d. 1910), John (1838 d. 1891), Joseph Thomas (1840 d. 1927), Maria Jane (1942 d. 1917), Albert (1846-7 d. 1867)

or of William's other siblings lines of Michael Koen b. about 1792 in Ireland (remained a bachelor school teacher it appears),

Patrick Koen b. about 1801 In Ireland Married Margaret McBride b. 1805-6 in Ireland and came later as their children were b. in Ireland but listed in Canada's 1861 census as Mary (27), Michael (25) and Jane (20)

John (b. 1805 d. 1848 and married to Mary? d. 1849 and appears to have been childless

Mary (b. 1807 d. 1857) Married Andrew Grainger and came to Canada 1835 had children: Baby girl died on trip over, Joseph Granger (b 1837 d?) John (b.1843 d?) Julia Ann entered as nun Hotel Dieu 1855, Michael (b. 1839 d?), James Granger who married Mary Cashman

So for example, the decendant that knew that William Koen had married Susan Cosgrove, was the son of Alexander Koen who married Mary Degan, who was the son of William and Sarah, so you can see how you have to be able to trace back strongly to this area to find where you will fit into the family tree and meet your cousins.

This is NOT a place to START looking for roots, but the place to trace back towards, and you may find that you belong to another branch all together. But do not let geography fool you, as we know we have direct decendants everywhere from WAshington State to Texas, so if your line keeps heading north, we may be the place that your first generation in the new world came from, but do your research via church records first to be sure.
