Do you suppose this could be your Homer?I know the middle initial is different, but I've seen that often on census records.Maybe Hugh can find more on this family. The index I usehas to match spellings exactly and I'm not finding Homer or Chester.
1900 census Kerr Co, TX:

" Florida J., w, b Jan 1839, 61, m 40 yrs, 12 ch, 10 lvg, b MS, MS, MS
" Nettie R., d, b Nov 1874, 25, sgl, b TX
" Homer G., s, b Oct 1879, 20, sgl, b TX
" Mary L., d, b Feb 1882, 18, sgl, b TX
" William H., s, b Feb 1885, 15, sgl, b TX
[John is a physcian and owns home free and clear]
By 1910 John is a widower, dau Nettie is still living at home, plus a married dau Lydia Griffin and two of her children.Since John owns property you might check land and probate records, see who shows up as his heirs.See if your Homer and his brother Chester are listed.
Kerr Co, TX GenWeb site shows several items on Maildins.
