I am trying to determine what the connection is between the following names: Buffington, Buffin,Buffen, and Buffins. Someone advised me that the Buffington name may have a Texan origin.
The families that I have researched so far used the following names:
Buffen,Merrion,born 1938-died around 1986 in Carter Co.,MO/born in AL.
Buffin,Harvey,1863,AL,migrated to TN.
Buffins,Robert,27,TN,AL,AL.He migrated to Chicago,Cook Co.IL. He and his family are in IL. during the 1920 Federal Census.
Buffins,Harry,TN,1895-1968;died in NY/born in TN,but his SS# was issued in OH.
Buffin,Robert,1832,VA,VA,VA. He migrated to Greenville,Butler Co.,AL.
In my Internet research//National Archives/Dawes Roll,I found the Buffington name;it may be Cherokee in origin. One of the counties which I am researching in is Elmore Co., AL. formerly known as Cossada. It was formed from parts of Coosa,Tallapoosa, and Montgomery Counties in addition to a part of the Cherokee Indian Nation located in AL.
I also found the Buffington name in AL. It is my belief that all of the other names,Buffen,Buffin, and Buffins are derived from the Buffington name.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
