Judy, saw your message stating that you are
related to the NITE family.Your statement
prompted me to respond regarding the matter
of the men killed and wounded by Kimble Co.
Sheriff, John L. JONES, and his posse.
Some members of my QUINNEY family speculate
that my GG Uncle, Hugh QUINNEY, and his bro.
in law, Will KNIGHT, may have been members of
the group you spoke of.These NITE men were
suspected by Sheriff JONES of rustling cattle
and horses from the Peter PATTERSON ranch as
well as many other ranches in that and other
parts of Texas during that time frame. And,
one of Mr. PATTERSON's horses was found at
the scene of the shoot out.

My GG Aunt, Ida QUINNEY, was married to Will
Knight and may have been the "unidentified
woman" escorted by Deputy Sam JOBES out to
view the bodies of those killed.Sam JOBES
was the son of John H. JOBES who was married
at the time (his 3rd wife) to Anna M.(GIBSON)
JOBES who was half sister to Ida & Hugh
QUINNEY.

NITE and Jim CRANE that could prove or dis-
prove their true identity?Could either of
them have been Will KNIGHT or Hugh QUINNEY
using an alias? The Kimble County Citizen
issue dated 10 FEB 1897 named the men:"Jim
CRANE and ____NITE, alias JOHNSON, had been
killed, John UNDERWOOD severely wounded".
You could help solve a 100 year old family
mystery if you have additional evidence re-
lating to this matter!!!!Was the correct
spelling NITE or KNIGHT?Any light you can
bring to bear on this mystery will be most
appreciated.
