My Ross ancestors were Scots/Irish who came through Canada to Michigan by 1870. I believe the parent was John Ross, a Scot. Son Donald Ross was b. Scotland about 1832 and was married to Lavinia (Meade?) by 1870 and living in Pontiac, Michigan; worked for the railroad there. His brother John was born Scotland about 1835 and was married to Isabel Kerr/Carr who was from Ireland. They were living next door to Donald and Lavinia Ross in Pontiac, Michigan 1870 census where John also worked for the railroad. John and Isabel had three children born in Michigan and one, Donald Adam Ross, born 1872 in Listowel, Canada. John's son David Ross (b. 1870) married Emma Corrigan in Port Huron, MI about 1898. Family members were living in Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas by 1900.
The Ross men were handsome and tall with dark, wavy hair, deep voices, and broad, toothy smiles. Despite little formal education, they had mechanical aptitude and were successful as railroad locomotive engineers.
If any of these family members are familiar to you in Canada, Michigan, or Texas, I would like to exchange. Patti Ross Parker
