I'll begin with 1900 census to show family connection. I'm not saying there isn't Indian blood in your family, but I don't think father of Herbert was full blood.

1900 census Grayson Co, TX:

Kepley, George W., hd, b Sep 1877, 22, M 7 yrs, b TN, TN, TN
" Rosa M., wf, b Oct 1878, 21, M 7 yrs, 3 ch, 3 lvg, b GA, TN, TN
" Eva L., d, b Aug 1895, 4, b TX
" John, w, b Feb 1897, 3, b TX
" Herbert W., s, b Aug 1899, 10/12, b TX

1920 census Lamar Co, TX:

Kepley, George, h, 47, md, b TN, TN, TN - carpenter, house
" Rosa, w, 41, md, b TN, TN, TN
" John, s, 23, sgl, b TX
" Herbert, s, 19, b TX
" Walter, s, 17, b TX
" Vernon, s, 12, b TX
" H_____, s, 8, b TX [unable to read this name]

1930 census Tarrant Co, TX:

Kepley, George W., hd, 53, single, b TN, TN, TN
[George is living alone and is a carpenter, buildings]

Now that you can see the connection, I will go backwards.

1880 census Sumner Co, TN:

Category: Name; Relationship to head of household; Marital Status; Gender; Race; Age; Birthplace; Occupation; Father's Birthplace; Mother's Birthplace.

Asa W. KEPLEY Self M Male W 32 TN Farm Laborer NC TN
Eliza J. KEPLEY Wife M Female W 41 TN Keeping House VA TN
Mary J. KEPLEY Dau S Female W 13 TN TN TN
W. Johnson KEPLEY Son S Male W 11 TN TN TN
George KEPLEY Son S Male W 9 TN TN TN

1870 census Sumner Co, TN:

Keply[sic], W.A., 22, b TN - land 300/persnal 300
" Eliza, 25, b TN
" Mary, 2, b TN
" W. J., 1, b TN

Next door:

Keply, William, 74, b NC - land 600/personal 450
" E.G., 50, b TN
" (Sabina ?), 25, b TN
" P.C., 14, b TN (male)
" J.L., 11, b TN (male)

1860 census Sumner Co, TN:

Kipley[sic], Wm., 63, b NC - land 2,000/personal 390
" Bett___, 39, b TN [unable to make out this name]
" Lelana, 18, b TN
" Asa W., 16, b TN
" Sally, 12, b TN

Now, I suggest you go to the Sumner Co, TN GenWeb site. I clicked on their Search Engine, typed in Kepley and quit looking after seeing two items alone that will knock your socks off. One is an entry for Wm C. Kepley, with information on when and where he was born in NC etc. The other shows info on Asa Perdue. His daughter, Elizabeth/Betty, married Wm Kepley, guess you can see where their son Asa got his name. Take your time and look at all 16 items, see what is there.

That link takes you to the U.S. level, on the left side, click on TN, then find and click Sumner Co. I'm giving you the home page for GenWeb, so you can use it for other research, too.

Happy Hunting (^_^)
