James Winson/Wilson/Winston to Panama ~ 1910-15?

I am seeking info on my Panamanian grandmother's parents. Her birth certificate (11/1914) cites her father as James Winson, though we now believe it may be Wilson or Winston. My grandmother said he was an American from Texas in Panama working on the railroads, never married her mother. I looked on the Roosevelt Medal cite (for US citizens who worked on the canal for 2+ years) and found a "James Wilson #5206" which could be him. Years ago, and uncle in Panama said he had found some record identifying a person with a similar name around the right time as an "engineer" for the RRs. Anyone have ideas on how to find more info about him? Thanks very much!
