It is my understanding the Masons do have some information on their early members. But, because they have received so many reqeusts from family history researchers, they no longer look up those records for you. They haven't shut the records, you can go in and look at the records yourself, or get someone to do it for you, they just don't have the man power and time to do all the lookups themselves.
