Shirley, Thanks for the reply. Yes, it is believed for some reason Annie was called Ida. This is basically what we have - most documented: Annie Elizabeth Midkiff, also called Eliza, was born 1860 in Orange Co., TX to Carlton Midkiff and Sarah Jane Donaho. It is thought that soon after Annie was born Carlton died in the Civil War at Sabine Pass, TX during the yellow fever outbrake. Sarah Jane Donaho was living in Louisiana with her parents, Daniel Lewis Donaho and Julia Ann Lewis Donaho around this time. She was with them when Daniel moved his family to Madison County, TX. in about 1862. It was in Madison County that Sarah Jane Donaho Midkiff married Henry May and had 10 children. I believe it is on the 1880 census that Annie is shown as 19 year old "Eliza" living in the house of her mother and step-father. I believe Annie married in 1882 in Madison Co to George Casey. There is a listing for Ida Midkiff Casey in the Willowhole cemetery and the birth date matches up with Annie's. There must be 20 Casey tombstones listed also! I will gladly share what I have if you believe this is the correct family. It is believed Carlton Midkiff's father was the brother of my 3rd great grandmother.
