I don't know where you live, but in TX I understand many public libraries have the TX state wide death index 1903-1940 on microfilm. If you're not in TX, contact the TX state archives in Austin, they have that index and can tell you death date and county where Samuel died. His death certificate should show the names of his parents, including his mother Mary's maiden name.
