Need help in Brownsville.

My great grandfather, Victor Ramirez, was born in Brownsville on 8 September 1876. He died here in Los Angeles. But I can't find a trace of him in Texas. No online source, nor any help from the diocese of Brownsville, the Texas State Catholic Archives nor the Texas State Library.

Does anyone have any other ideas how I can trace him?
I'm interested in digging something up on his father, Mateo Ramirez. But this is the only lead I have toward Mateo.
