In Reply to: A. C. KILPATRICK OF TEXAS AND MISSISSIPPI by M Webster of 59529

1930 census Bell Co, TX, page 179:

Kilpatrick, Andy C., h, 43, M @ 21 yrs of age, b MS, MS, MS
" Edna I., w, 39, M @ 16 yrs of age, b TX, IL, MS
" D___word, s, 20, sgl, b TX
" Thomas, s, 18, b TX
" Artis[sic], s, 14, b TX
" Billie J., 3, b TX [now you know what B.J. stands for]

Page 181:

Kilpatrick, Ed F., h, 45, M @ 28 yrs of age, b MS, MS, MS
" (Louie?) M., w, 34, M @ 16 yrs of age, b MS, AL, AL
" Lois, d, 16, b TX
" Ruby, d, 13, b TX
" Verlene, d, 11, b TX
" Edward, s, 8, b TX

1910 census Bell Co, TX page 228 A:

Kilpatrick, A. C. h, 23, M(1) 2 yrs, b MS, TN, MS
" Edna, w, 19, M(1) 2 yrs, 2 ch, 2 lvg, b TX, IL, MS
" Cleo, d, 2, b TX
" D___word, s, ?/12, b TX
Binkly, Frankie, boarder, 18, sgl, b TX, --, MS [maybe brother to Edna?]

Page 228 B, could this be mother of A.C. and her siblings?:

Tyler, H.L., h,m 55, wid, b MS, SC, AL
Scrivener, E. A., sister, 59, wid, 2 ch, 2 lvg, b MS, SC, AL
" E. E., nephew, 30, sgl, b MS, MS, MS
Kilpatrick, M.C., sister, 60, wid, 6 ch, 3 lvg, b MS, SC, AL

Same page as A.C. a few households apart:

Tyler, Ada, h, 49, wid, 8 ch, 7 lvg, b MS, VA, MS
" N.F., s, 27, wid, b MS, MS, MS
" D.A., s, 18, b TX
" V.C., s, 16, b TX
" Ruth, d, 14, b TX
" Roy, s, 10, b TX
" Newt, s, 7, b TX
" Ara, grd dau, 3, b TX [probably ch of widowed son N.F.]
" Vera, grd dau, 1 4/12, b TX

1900 census Bell Co, TX, here is proof on M.C. in Tyler household, sister is living with her on this census :

Kilpatrick, Mary, h, b Aug 1850, 49, wid, 6 ch, 4 lvg, b MS, SC, AL
" Eddie, s, b Aug, ?, ?, sgl, b MS, TN, MS
" Chesley, b Jul 1885, 14, b MS, MS, MS [your A.C.??]
" John, s, b Aug 1889, 10, b MS
Scrivener, Elizabeth, sister, ?, ?, wid, 2 ch, 2 lvg, b MS, SC, AL
" Ab, s, ?, 20, sgl, b MS, MS, MS

Next door, probably Elizabeth's other lvg child:

Scrivener, William, h, b Mar 1878, 22, m 4 yrs, b MS, MS, MS
" Mary, w, b Nov 1874, 25, m 4 yrs, b LA, --, LA
" Coy, s, b Jul 1897, 2, b LA

Could this be Mary Kilpatrick with husband and older children? A.C. shows his father was born TN, that would fit this J.W. I would say Mary is a second younger wife; Christopher son of J.W. is too old to be son of Mary. I would follow up on this family, see if you can find anyone working on them. And, I would check to see if J.W. fought during the Civil War.

1880 census Batesville, Panola Co, MS:

J. W. KILPATRICK Self M Male W 42 TN Farmer TN TN
Mary C. KILPATRICK Wife M Female W 29 MS Keeping House --- ---
Cristopher C. KILPATRICK Son S Male W 21 MS TN MS
Cathrine KILPATRICK Dau S Female W 18 MS TN MS
Charlie T. KILPATRICK Son S Male W 7 MS TN MS
Wm. A. KILPATRICK Son S Male W 7M MS TN MS

The 1880 census does not show if someone owned land, I would check land records, see if you can find more on this J.W. Who are his heirs?

1930 census Bell Co, TX page 175:

Sturdevant, Jeff, h, b 1873, M @ 23 yrs of age, b IL, MS, IL
" [can't read], w, 70, M @ 20 yrs of age, b MS, MS, TN

Page 174 is son Roy E., 34, b TX

1920 census Bell Co, TX:

Sturdevant, Jeff, h, 62, m, b IL, M?, IL
" Josie, w, 62, m, b MS, MS, MS
" Jossie, d, 26, b TX
" Callie, d, 2?, b TX
" Roy, s, 24, b TX
" Hershel, s, 18, b TX

1910 census Bell Co, TX - next door to A.C. & Edna:

Stardevant[sic], T.J., h, 52, M(1) 21 yrs, b IL, IL, IL
" Jose, w, 52, M(1) 21 yrs, 8 ch, 6 lvg, b MS, AL, TN
" Gay, d, 18, b TX
" ___, s, 17, b TX
" Roy, s, 15, b TX
" Callie, d, 13, b TX
" Hurshel[sic], s, 9, b TX
[I would guess Jeff's name is Thomas Jefferson]

1900 census Bell Co, TX, pg 220:

Sturdevan[sic], Jeff T., h, b May 1864, 36, M 12 yrs, b IL, __, IL
" Josie, w, b Dec 1858, 41, M 12 yrs, 6 ch, 6 lvg, b MS, AL, TN
" Edna, d, b Oct 1890, 9, b TX
" Gay, d, b Feb 1892, 8, b TX
" ?assie, s, b Feb 1893, 7, b TX
" Roy, s, b Apr 1894, 6, b TX
" Callie, d, b Apr 1897, 3, b TX
" Hollis, s, b Feb 1899, 1, b TX

Also on the Bell Co, TX 1900 census is an L.W. Sturdevan 45, b IL, maybe a brother to Jeff???

1880 census Bell Co, TX, here is Josephine, note she has a sister named Callie and she named a daughter Callie, too:

Nancy A. COX Self W Female W 61 TN Keeping House KY KY
Nannie A. COX Dau S Female W 24 MS At Home AL TN
Jas. D. COX Son S Male W 22 MS Works On Farm AL TN
Josephine COX Dau S Female W 21 MS At Home AL TN
Maria COX Dau S Female W 20 MS At Home AL TN
Callie COX Dau S Female W 18 MS At Home AL TN

1870 census Bell Co, TX:

Kider, M.R., h, 41, b TN
" Rachel, 35, b KY
Cox, Nancy, 46, b TN
" Sina, 15, b MS
" Nancy, 14, b MS
" James, 13, b MS
" Josephine, 12, b MS
" Maria, 11, b MS
" Calley, 10, b MS

I would guess Nancy's husband was killed in the Civil War, she was young enough to still have children after Calley was born.

TX Confederate Pension Idx:

Cox, Nancy Ann, #5177, husband James W. Cox - Bell Co, TX

I would send for her widow's pension application, see if it gives you any additional helpful information.

With so many of your family in Bell Co, TX, I would be checking land, probate and court records for the county.

Have you checked out the Bell Co, TX GenWeb site? I used their search feature, typed in Sturdevant, up comes about 40 items, the very first one I looked at is a headstone for Thomas Jefferson and Josephine A. Sturdevant. I didn't even bother looking at the rest, but you need to. If there's things like that on the site, someone else is working on the family, too. I would click and look at everything on that site, and post some queries, too.

Happy Hunting (^_^)
