Do you know when and where Samuel was born (other then early 1900s)? Your father's birth certificate should give not only his parents, but their ages at the time of his birth.
You say your father was of MS, but where was he born?
Do you know when and where Samuel died? A copy of his death certificate should show, not only when and where he was born, but the names of his parents, too.
Name of Samuel's father should get you back to where you can go looking at census records. Most of the census indexes are indexed by head of household.
