Gilley relationship to Hills-Smith Co., TX
Posted by: Doris Sanders (ID *****4265) Date: November 02, 2004 at 15:14:50

My John and Sarah Gilley, both b. abt. 1794 VA, came to what would be Smith Co., TX shortly after 1840. Their sons John B. and Charles Gilley came before with James Calhoun Hill and part of the survey crew. In 1942 John and Sarah's grandson, John Solomon Gilley, died and several people with the surname Hill signed his Memorial Book as relatives. How were they related? In one account, James Calhoun Hill was said to have taken his wife Rebecca Marr Hill to relatives in TN. John and Sarah's son John B. was b. in TN, several subsequent children were b. in AL, and then they were in Bedford Co., TN owning land with Erwin Stevens.
