I think what we need to do here is sort out your information. I looked at your message history and it looks like Elbert Whitworth is your gr uncle, if so, you haven't given us the name of anyone in your direct line. Other then Granny's married name was Binion. (^_^)

Names, dates (or approximate dates) and locations are important to any query. It seems you must know a little about your gr grdfather Whitworth, so let's start with his name, and any data you may have on him such as when and where he was born, have you found him on any census records, and when and where he may have died. I realize you may not have all of this, but you might be surprised how even a little info can help out. If you have no dates on him, how about year of birth for his children??

You mention San Angelo, the name of counties for genealogical research are important, so here is a handy dandy site to locate county for TX towns/cities:

http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/cities.htm

On the 1880 census index there are 152 people named Whitworth in TX, none in Tom Green Co. So, you can see why it is important we know something about your gr grdfth, besides his surname. (^_^)
