The latest census open to the public to view is the one in 1930. I'm thinking the Joseph C. Gilbert in Upshur Co, TX, info I gave you from the 1930 census is probably your grandfather with his first wife. Your father would have been born after the 1930 census.

A copy of your father's birth certificate should give you not only the names of his parents, but age and state/country where they were born.
