The online SSDI only begins with deaths that occurred about 1963, a few are a little earlier. That is when they began using computers for the records. You will have to contact Soc Sec Admin to find out if he did apply.

As for the WWI draft, I'm not sure all of that is online, either -- not everything is, yet. The Family History Library in Salt Lake City has them on microfilm, you could order out the film on temporary loan, for a small fee, to your local Family History Center.
