Nelson, James Polk & Mary Athalia (Mollie) Gilpin - TX/AR/TN

Any information regarding the ancestry of James Polk Nelson (b. 11 Jan 1844 in Tenn, d. 16 Aug 1901 in Titus County, TX, married Mary (Mollie) Athalia Gilpin on 16 May 1866 in Independence County, AR) would be greatly appreciated!

Jim's three oldest children were born in Arkansas (according to the 1880 US Federal Census), and the rest were born in Texas. Also according to the 1880 census, Jim, as well as both parents, were born in Tennessee. At that point, I lose the thread, since I cannot locate him on a family listing for the 1850, 1860, or 1870 Federal Census images.

I have lots of ancestors for the Gilpin branch, but none further back than Jim for the Nelson branch.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
