Hi Shirley, You didn't include any dates, or approximate dates, in your query. If you have none on William, how about birth date for child or children? You say you know he was in TX and AR, how do you know, and when was he there?
I checked your message history and you mentionn William and Prudence Allen, took a chance that was his wife's name. Is this the right couple?
1900 census Lamar Co, TX:
Burden, Wm R., h, b Apr 1837, 63, M 30 yrs, b AL, NC, NC
" Prudence A., w, b May 1847, 53, M 30 yrs, 7 ch 3 lvg, b MS, TN, TN
" William F., s, b Feb 1854, 16, b AR
Titsworth, Martin, son-in-law, b Oct 1876, 23, m 1 yr, b TN,TN, TN
" Ellas T., d, b Sep 1879, 20, m 1 yr, 1 ch, 1 lvg, b MS
" Alma, gr dau, b ? 1900, 4/12, b TX
No William R., nor Prudence listed on 1910 census. Sons William F. and James W. are in Lamar Co, TX and neither parent is living with either of them. Check with the State Archives in Austin, they have a TX state wide death index 1903-1940 and they should be able to give you county and full date of death for both of them.
Since you didn't mention MS, I thought you might want this from Northeast, Attala, MS 1880 census:
Category: Name; Relationship to head of household; Marital Status; Gender; Race; Age; Birthplace; Occupation; Father's Birthplace; Mother's Birthplace.

Burdin, ? ?, 26, b MS (male) works on farm
" (Frances?), 34, b SC (female) - at home
" Rylie(sic), 4, b SC
" James, 2, b SC
[after W. & P. is written "Jany" (abbreviation for January) in column marked if born within the year, but I think it was meant for if "married" within the year. Maybe William had a previous wife??]
You might follow up on the following as a "possible" father to William. This man owns land and you can check land and probate records, see if your William shows up as an heir. Heirs will have to sign off to give clear title to buyer.
1870 census Attala Co, MS:
Burden, Wm, 56, b SC - land 360/personal 500
" Amanda, 47, b AL
" Maria, 19, b MS
If he doesn't pan out, there are several Burdens in neighboring Choctaw Co, MS and come from SC, too.
Happy Hunting (^_^)
