Major Banton, Brazoria County, Texas

A grave in the historic Columbia Cemetery in West Columbia is marked simply "remains of Major Banton." There are no dates shown. The probate index for Brazoria County lists two cases involving Bantons:
Banton, Glover, minor [filed]Feb. 9, 1857 [case #] 678
Banton, Joab H., deceased [filed]Jan 19, 1857 [case #] 672
The 1850 census shows a planter named Jacob A. Banton (age 59, born in NC) and wife Lucy (age 48, born in Va).
The 1860 shows a Glover Banton (age 4, b. in TX) who is probably the son of Louisa Banton (age 30, b. in Louisiana), both of whom are in the household of Joel Spencer (planter, age 65, born in SC).
A Benjamine Bryan married a Mrs. Lucy G. Banton in 1857 and a C. C. Millican married a Mrs. Louisa J. Banton in 1861. (Presumably the former was Mrs. Jacob Banton and the latter was Mrs. Joab H. Banton.)
My chief goal is to identify the Banton in the cemetery. If you are related to any of these people, please contact me (click my name above for my e-mail address) or post here.
