Haney Cemetery and John B. Haney--Wood Co., TX

I am researching the Haney Cemetery near Hawkins, Wood Co., Texas and would appreciate any historical information. I believe the cemetery is named for the family of John B. Haney.

This I've learned from census and online research:

John B. (Brown) Haney born about 1810 in North Carolina was in Upshur Co., TX in 1850. But he was in Wood Co., TX by 1860. He died sometime after the 1870 census and is most likely buried in the Haney Cemetery.

According to other researchers John's first wife was Fatima Gibbs and they were married in Harrison Co., TX about 1845. She had died before the 1860 census and may have been one of the first burials in the cemetery.

The children of John B. Haney and Fatima Gibbs are: Mary F. 1843, Napoleon Bonaparte 1845, Benjamin F. 1847, Josephine Elizabeth 1848, Isaac Lawson 1851, Caroline 1853, William M. 1855 and John Pinkney 1857.

John B. Haney remarried by 1870 to a Margaret born in Ohio. Some research has shown that she was previously widowed by a Coslet and a Gillum or Gillium. Other researchers show her to be the daughter of Abraham Hoover who was living in Upshur County, for whom the Hoover Cemetery in Upshur Co. is named.

If anyone has information about this Haney family or any history about the cemetery itself I would be most grateful. For instance was there ever a Church located beside the cemetery? I know the Liberty Baptist Church and Cemetery are very nearby, but I don't know if there was ever a church beside the Haney Cemetery.

If anyone has a transcription of the burials in the cemetery, or know with some certainty of unmarked burials there, I would be grateful for that also. I know there are a great many more burials there than there are gravestones. I know of several of my Webb and Minshew ancestors who are buried there and only one of them has a stone still in existance.

Thank you, Diana Ware
