I am looking for information on the TRAIL family line and I know the line I am working is a Cherokee one. My g-g-grandmother was named Talitha "Caroline" Trail, b. 1836 and she married Augustus W. Casey sometime before 1858 in Georgia or Alabama (family tradition is that she told grandchildren they were "traveling west" and living in "Lawerence County Alabama" when she named their sixth child Lawrence West Casey). Augustus and his family were from South Carolina and then moved to Georgia before heading west to Alabama and Texas. My grandmother always told me she thought that "Caroline Trail" had a father named "Jasper Trail", but research has shown that Jasper was probably her brother.
Caroline reported on all census records that she was born in South Carolina, as were her parents. She is also noted as "white". However, everyone who knew her, family included knew she was a Cherokee woman. I was also told that "Trail" was a name her family adopted as they had been indians forced to move on the trail of tears.
Caroline Trail had a sad life ending. She was widowed and then murdered in Mount Vernon, Texas in 1891.
If anyone has any information on the Trail family line, I would be very grateful to share what little info I have.
