This is interesting, good thing his daughter had an unusual married name. I couldn't find John on the 1900 census index. So, I went looking for the Tajan and as I scrolled down the page I thought I saw a Rambo, so you can't fault the indexing, they had shown John's name spelled Rambs. But, when you know how it is "supposed" to be spelled you could make it out as follows. Christine is not Katherine's mother, only married 18 years, but Katherine is listed as step daughter, which is supposed to be the relatioinship to the head of household, could it be John is her stepfather??? Note in census her mother is born Ger, but on this one father born IL, and others, father born PA. That doesn't match John. 1900 census Harris Co, TX: Roesslr(sic), John, hd, b Feb 1852, 48, M 18 yrs, b Ger, G,G " Christine, w, b Oct 1850, 49, M 18 6 ch, 2 lvg, b Ger,G,G Tajan, Katie, S dau, b Jun 1875, 24, M 1 yr, 0 ch, b TX, IL, GER Roessler, Henry M., S son, b Jan 1870, 30, sgl, b TX, IL, Ger Tajan, Joseph, S i law, b Dec, 1874, ??, M 1 yr, b TX, France, FR [John is listed as hotel proprietor and looks like he owns his own place. Year John arrived in U.S. not clear on this census, but he had been here since 1881 and Naturalized. I can't seem to find him on the 1880 census, maybe he came to the U.S. went back to Germany and returned(?)] 1930 census Harris Co, TX: Tajan, Katherine, h, 58 wid, b TX, TX, TX Anderson, Robert G., boarder, 34, M @ 22 yrs, b TX, US, TX " Edna ?, boarder, 34, M @ 22 yrs, b IL, US, IL Tajan, Katherine, d, 10, sgl, b TX, TX, TX [I wonder is there is any family connection to Edna, note born IL?] Looks like John died between 1920 and 1930, and her husband Joseph, too. There is a long list of volunteers on the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness site for Harris Co, TX lookups. Many are listed to take cemetery photos, but several will do record lookups. If you can find someone who will visit the Clayton Library in Houston, I'm sure they have the microfilm copy of the TX state wide death index 1903-1930 and they should be able to find death dates for John and Joseph for you. http://www.raogk.org/ Once you know when and where Joseph is buried, then you should find Katherine buried there with him. John will probably be buried next to Christine. You might have them watch for Henry, too. A death certificate for Katherine should list the names of her parents.
