First off there are 4 towns in TX named Liberty Hill -- Milam, San Jacinto, Titus and Williamson Co, but Josiah shows up in two other counties.

1860 census Burnet Co, TX:

Fowler, Josiah, 49, b TN - farmer ld $21,000/pers $15,000
" Rebeca(sic), 45, b TN
" Wm J., 22, b TN
" Pleasant, 20, b TN
" Hiram C., 18, b TN
" Mary P., 14, b TN
" Wesley H., 11, b TN
" Lauara E., 8, b TN
" Cora L., 6, b TX
" John F., 2, b TX
Lacy Ervin, 25, b KY - stone mason
" George, 22, b KY - stone mason
Mitchell, N.B., 25, b TN - house joiner
Yett, Wm A., 22, b TN - merchant

1870 census Burnet Co, TX:

Fowler, Josiah, 59, b TN - land $10,000 - pers $2000
" Rebecka, 57, b TN
" Harman(sic), 25, b TN
" Wesley, 20, b TN
" Laura, 18, b TN
" Cora, 15, b TX
" John, 12, b TX

Yett families on same page and total of 9 Yett families in the county, all with children born in TN

1880 census Bell Co, TX (from FamilySearch site):

Category: Name; Relationship to head of household; Marital Status; Gender; Race; Age; Birthplace; Occupation; Father's Birthplace; Mother's Birthplace.

Josiah FOWLER Self M Male W 69 TN Farmer VA NC
Rebecca M. FOWLER Wife M Female W 65 TN Keeping House VA NC
Laura FOWLER Dau S Female W 24 TN TN ---
Lura FOWLER GDau S Female W 5 TX TN TX

From ages and birth locations of children, you can see they should be in TN on the 1850 census. Not only is Josiah less common, but he should be found in same TN county as all those Yett families, too.

Well, I went to the Burnet Co, TX GenWeb site, typed in Fowler and came up with some interesting material. You need to go through it more thoroughly then I did. Also, spend time on Yett, too.

Wiley Young Fowler, b 1825 SC, md Mary Jane Yett 1848 Parrotsville, TN. I checked and that's Cocke Co. So, I visited the Cocke Co, TN GenWeb site and they have the 1850 census for their county on their site:

Fowler, Josiah, 39, b TN
" Rebecca M., 36, b TN
" Sarah J., 16, b TN
" Thomas M., 14, b TN
" William J., 12, b TN
" Pleasant A., 10, b TN
" Chapman H., 6, b TN
" Mary P., 4, b TN
" Wesley H., 2, b TN

Want to bet the following are the parents/family of Josiah?

Fowler, Elijah, 65, b SC
" Elizabeth, 60, b SC
" James, 22, b TN
" Coleman, 18, b TN
" John, 16, b TN
" Mack, 12, b TN

You need to follow up on other Fowler and Yett on this census. There is a William Yett 70, b PA, and family. He probably is patriarch of the Yett family. You may want to look at he handwritten census, that might have been VA, not PA. Or, the handwritten record for the 1880, where Rebecca shows father born VA, maybe that one should be PA.(?) Anyway, I think he fits.

Happy Hunting (^_^)
