US-Mexican War of 1848; Soldiers w/surnames Magallan or Anzaldua?

Re: War of 1848; Matamoros was one of the first Mexican cities to be invaded by US. My family's roots go all the way back to the RGV, Mission, Texas area. Grandma, great grandma & great great grandma were all born in South Texas. Anzaldua is the maiden name. Magallan is the married name. Any info. would be sincerely appreciated.
