As far as I know, most of my family came from MEXICO. I am doing research now for a college research paper on Mexican Immigration.I would love to find out more about my great grandparents and any possible new information would be very helpful.Below is everything is what I know.
My great grandfather, John(possibly Juan) Rivas, died Oct.1970 at age 82. He was a native of Mexico. He lived in Des Moines 50 yr, previously in Texas. He was also
a laborer for the Rock Island Railroad. He married Gumesinda Cervantes who died Sept., 1983 age 94. Born in Mexico she lived in Des Moines 30 yr. before going to Calif. My grandfather was Lupe Rivas, born in 1922.He married Mary Lucille Chia(1923-2001) and they had six sons, Dominic, David, Henry(my father), Tony, Timmy and Christopher. My grandmother, Mary Lucille Chia was born to Francisca Vasquez Chia and Fernando Chia, they were married in MEXICO, probably Guanajuato. They immigrated to the united states between 1917 and 1919.Fernando worked for the Rock Island railroad, and lived in Des Moines iowa for 34 years before passing away in 1959 at the age of 67.
