I can't seem to pin down James M. Dalrymple, I assume census index has done wonders with the spelling of his name, and the one I use has to match exactly.

1850 census Shelby Co, AL:

Dalrymple, Lewis, 59, b SC
" Martha, 35, b SC
" Charles, 21, b AL
" Thomas H., 19, b AL
" Lewis W., 14, b AL
" Melissa A., 10, b AL

This looks like Charles from above on the 1880 census Hunt Co, TX, so some of those AL Dalrymples went to TX:

Charles DALRYMPLE Self W Male W 51 AL Farmer SC SC
Louis T. DALRYMPLE Son S Male W 21 AL Farmer AL AL
Melissa M. DALRYMPLE Dau S Female W 18 AL Housekeeper AL AL
Margaret V. DALRYMPLE Dau S Female W 16 AL Asst. Housekeeper AL AL
Charles N. DALRYMPLE Son S Male W 8 AL AL AL
Albert M. DALRYMPLE Son S Male W 7 AL AL AL
Wilburn THIRSTON SSon S Male W 19 AL At Home AL AL

Happy Hunting (^_^)
