Census 1850 - 1900 Lookups - please?

I'm trying to find any information about Joseph Cummins Elliott/Elliot born near Birmingham (Jefferson County?) approx May 23, 1848. His father's name may have been Joseph Dawson Elliott. I have no other information - even this may not be exactly correct. In 1850 he would have been age 1,2 or 3. I don't know when he moved to Texas, whether it was as a child with his parents or later.

I know he was in Comanche County about 1879 because he married Bettie (Elizabeth) Allen Hammett. They had many children, most who were born in Comanche County. He died in 1905 in Ellis County.

I have looked on the 1880 census online and just cannot find a Joseph Elliott or Elliot or a JC Elliott/Elliot that looks right at all. Appreciate any help in trying to find this family.
