Do you suppose this is your Lucy? With other children being born in TX, maybe she thought she was, too. There's a Jimmy, could be brother James?

1880 census Panola Co, TX:

Category: Name; Relationship to head of household; Marital Status; Gender; Race; Age; Birthplace; Occupation; Father's Birthplace; Mother's Birthplace.

Rachal ADAMS Self W Female W 44 TX Keeping House TN TN
Elijah ADAMS Son S Male W 18 TX Laborer AL TX
William ADAMS Son S Male W 15 LA Laborer AL TX
Lucy ADAMS Dau S Female W 12 LA At Home AL TX
Jeffry ADAMS Son S Male W 10 TX At Home AL TX
Jackson ADAMS Son S Male W 8 TX At Home AL TX
Jimmy ADAMS Son S Male W 5 TX At Home AL TX

Hope it is your family, because here they are next door on 1870 census DeSoto Parish, LA:

Adams, William, 35, b AL
" Rachel, 34, b TX
" Susan, 11, b TX
" Elijah, 9, b TX
" Lucy, 5, b LA
" William, 4, b LA
" Thomas, 2/12, b TX

TX Confederate Pension:

Rachel E. Adams, #32545, Smith Co., hus William Washington Adams.

I've played around with 1860 census, no real good matches. Maybe moving between LA and TX, again. (^_^)
