John Smith Musgrove was born on 30 Jun 1844 at Coffee Co, AL (Richard Graham Musgrove, The American Family Musgrove (Houston, TX: ArGee, 1993). Hereinafter cited as The American Family Musgrove.) (1850 U.S. Census, Jasper Co, TX; (Washington, DC: Bureau of the Census). Hereinafter cited as 1850 Jasper Co, TX Census.). He married Louise J. Simmons, daughter of Wiley (Wyly) Simmons and Matilda Horn, on 2 Aug 1868 at Montgomery Co, TX (Richard Graham Musgrove, The American Family Musgrove.) (Richard Graham Musgrove, The American Family Musgrove.). He married Margrett Simmons, daughter of Wiley (Wyly) Simmons and Matilda Horn, after 1879 at TX. He died on 30 May 1916 at Conroe, Montgomery Co, TX, at age 71 (Richard Graham Musgrove, The American Family Musgrove.). He was buried after 30 May 1916 at County Line Cemetery, San Jacinto Co, TX (San Jacinto Co, TX Historical Commission, compiler, San Jacinto County, Texas, Cemeteries (Winston-Salem, NC: Hunter Publishing Co., 1977). Hereinafter cited as San Jacinto Co, TX, Cemeteries.).
        He appeared on the census of 1850 at Jasper, TX (1850 Jasper Co, TX Census;.); In the household of his father, Gordon C. Musgrove. He began military service in May 1863 at TX Enlisted at Sabine Pass. He was a teamster on Co A, Dailey's Bat., 10th Texas Cavalry; claim for military pension (#26442)filled in Montgomery Co, TX. He appeared on the census of 1870 at Leon, TX (1870 U.S. Census, Leon Co, TX; (Washington, DC: Bureau of the Census). Hereinafter cited as 1870 Leon Co, TX Census.); Page 30, Beat 5. He appeared on the census of 1910 at Montgomery, TX (1910 U.S. Census, Montgomery Co., TX; T-624 (Washington, DC: Bureau of the Census), Roll 1579, ED 198 sheet 6 125-125. Hereinafter cited as 1910 Montgomery Co, TX Census.).
