I have checked the book “Land of Good Water” and do find a reference to the village of Hopewell and it does mention that it was often attacked by Indians. It also mentions the 1863 massacre of the Wofford Johnson family but it only states that they were buried in the Hopewell Cemetery and no other names or information about the massacre. It also mentions that Hopewell had a Masonic Lodge #277 that was organized on August 3rd 1863 and one of the organizers was N. W. Johnson. That may or may not be the same person that was killed.
Sorry that I could not find more. Best of Luck.
