Angel/Mothershead around 1890

I am looking for information on the family of Mary Angel who married Thomas Mothershead in the late 1880's, possibly in East Texas, possibly McKinney, Sherman, Dallas or Stephensville, Texas. Mary and Thomas had two sons, Finis Christopher Mothershead and Chester or Chesley Mothershead. Thomas left Mary around 1890, changed his name to Thomas Marsalis/Marsalas. Mary died soon after, leaving her boys to be raised by her family. Thomas married two more times and his daughter from his second wife is Matty Lodsdon who wrote the book "My Mothershead Family.

The name Angel, from all the information I have is of English origin, not Spanish. The story always has been that Mary and Thomas had a fight and she didn't want to hear his name anymore, so in the heat of the moment he said you never will, and took a family name (Marsalas) to eleviate this problem. In all my research, I have never found this name in our family. I have no idea why he would leave his ONLY sons to be raised by his in-laws, who hated him so much, they would not speak of him ever again.

Thanks for your help. Diana Mothershed Eardley
