I checked your message history, have you seen the actual death certificate for Grey, or just the CA Dth Idx Online? I live and work in records in CA, and the surnames only are entered into that index. If you have the death certificate and it only has his mother's maiden name, have you tried to obtain a copy of his SS card application? Grey would have filled that out, and it should show the names of his parents.

Check the Bexar Co, TX GenWeb site, some GenWeb counties are putting their cemeteries online, you might find members of the family buried there and pick up birth and death dates, too. If the cemeteries are not on the county site, be sure to check the archived section of the TXGenWeb Project.

I would post a query on that site, someone may recognize the family names. Happy Hunting.
